  1. Get 1 (35 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  2. Make ready 1 lb lean ground beef

  6. Get 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
  7. Prepare 3 clove garlic, minced

Return meatballs to pot and cover. Spaghetti and meatballs has to be one of the most fun dishes ever invented, at least from a kid's perspective. Mounds of spaghetti, fork twirling strands in a spoon, tasty meatballs, even the very serving of the spaghetti, trying to lift just the right amount from the bowl — these are some of my favorite memories from childhood. To brown the meatballs, heat olive oil in a heavy pot or large skillet over medium-high heat.

Steps to make Spaghetti and Meatballs:
  1. In a large bowl, combine beef with breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, parmesan, egg, garlic, salt and pepper flakes.
  2. Mix until just combined and form into 16-18 balls.
  3. In a large pot over medium heat, add 1 tbsp oil. Add meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.
  4. Remove meatballs and reserve on plate.
  5. Add the remaining olive oil and onion and saute until onion is translucent.
  6. Add crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper and bring to a simmer.
  7. Add the meatballs back into the pot, cover and simmer until the sauce has thickened, 8-10 minutes.
  8. In a separate large pot boil water. After water boils put in spaghetti noodles and let it cook for 5-10 minutes or until noodles are soft and ready to eat.
  9. Pour spaghetti sauce with a good helping of helping of meatballs. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and enjoy! Best served with garlic bread!

Remove and drain on a paper towel after each batch. In the same pot, add the onions and garlic and cook for a few minutes, or until translucent. Serve hot on cooked spaghetti and pass the grated Parmesan. I make Martha's spaghetti sauce recipe from her "Comfort Food" cookbook with San Marzanos from our summer garden.
